Intuitive Eating
I am a body-affirming and weight-inclusive clinician. I work with clients to explore your unique history with food and body beginning in childhood. We will look at what cultural and familial messages you have received and how these have impacted your relationship with food and body.
I work primarily from an Intuitive Eating perspective and a non-diet approach. I help clients to begin to incorporate these principles. In my experience, those who suffer from eating disorders/disordered eating tend to be very disconnected from their bodies. I will work with you to be more curious about your body’s signals and what they may be trying to communicate. I will ask you to tune in and pay attention.
Diet mentality teaches us to look at external cues to determine how to nourish ourselves; how much, of what types of foods, good vs bad, calorie-focused. Intuitive eating focuses on internal cues, what is my body wanting and craving--what would make me feel satiated?
In working with eating disorders/disordered eating, many of my clients work with a multi-disciplinary team that may include a dietitian, physician, naturopath, or prescriber.
