Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is another name for individual therapy, or "counseling." In these sessions, a trained therapist works with clients one-on-one to explore their feelings, beliefs, and/or behaviors. This is done in a nonjudgmental, caring, and confidential space, so clients feel safe:
- Working through challenging or influential memories
- Identifying aspects of their lives that they would like to change
- Better understanding themselves and others
- Setting personal goals
- Working toward desired change
In my therapy practice, we work with the whole person--physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual--taking a holistic approach. Through this kind of whole-self therapy, you'll gain a deeper understanding of yourself on all levels and feel empowered to make positive changes in your life.
I am an individual therapist for adults (18+ years old) for a variety of mental concerns. Although I primarily see clients 1 on 1, at times we may bring in family members or other support people as needed. I have a holistic approach that looks at the whole person-- mind, body, and spirit. I believe that all of these aspects are intimately related and we must look at them all in order to fully understand one's story. I do not see clients as a diagnosis, but instead, use my training to gather history to inform my treatment plan.
Areas of Practice
My approach is trauma-informed and utilizes the framework of an 8-phase model of EMDR. I also draw from more traditional psychotherapy modalities, which include but are not limited to the following:
EMDR
Structural Dissociation Theory
Attachment Theory
Psychodynamic
Humanistic
Existential
Family Systems
Experiential
Mindfulness
